Why Perform a Comparative  Trial to Find the Optimal Medication for You?

There are two ways of treating patients.  The most common is see a patient for 15 minutes, make a quick diagnosis of ADD/ADHD, write a prescription, and see the patient a month later. The follow-up session lasts less than 10 minutes, mostly with an assistant. The doctor asks “is the medication working?” if you say “Yes.” He says “More” and rewrites the prescription.  If “No” he randomly prescribes something else, then says “See you in a month.”

The alternative takes more time, but is much more individualized and the treatment is personalized.  It is provided by a nationally-known, high respected specialist who has treated patients, performed cutting-edge research, an expert in neurobiology, psychopharmacology, ADD and in psychotherapy – of individuals and families.

Based on a detailed assessment of your symptoms, your life events and functioning, we will decide which of the medication is likely to be ideal for you.  I also give you a controlled comparative trial of 2-3 medications designed to define the ideal medication for you.  We also provide specific rating scales for you to monitor the relative effectiveness of each medication, their comparative side effects and your subjective preference.

If I were the patient – I can tell you which treatment I would prefer.

It is a little more expensive up front, but it gets to the best result fasters. As the physician, this is the standard I hold myself to. I treat you the way I would like to be evaluated and would want my family or kids treated.
